About me

I am Katherine Maxwell. I have practiced law in Kalispell since 1999 and started the firm Maxwell Law in 2004. I’m originally from New Zealand and graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with degrees in law and history. I practiced law in New Zealand, traveled the world, and took time out of the workforce when my children were young, before becoming part of the legal community in Kalispell, Montana.

I find immense satisfaction in helping my clients navigate and negotiate a life-changing family event such as a divorce or a disagreement involving children. It is so gratifying to help and support a client, as we resolve the legal issues and identify resources to help with problems the legal system cannot address. I am rewarded when I see that client moving beyond anxiety and uncertainty and into a new life.

Out of the office I enjoy hiking, backpacking, cross-country skiing, sailing, gardening – actually anything that involves being in the great outdoors.

About our office

The “folk Victorian” at 226 Third Avenue East, Kalispell was built in 1892. Recently restored, it provides a warm and welcoming family home environment in which to resolve family conflict.
